Profile:

Protopresbyter Kyprianos Kountouris is Assistant Professor of History of Education and Culture at the Theological School of the Church of Cyprus. He is also the Director of the School. He has worked for three decades in Primary Education, serving as a school Ηeadmaster in the United Kingdom and Cyprus. He has been actively involved in a great number of projects and has amble experience in the implementation of innovative programs and research projects. He received his PhD from the Department of Education of the University of Ioannina, Greece (2015) with a thesis entitled “Contribution to the History of Pre-Primary, Primary and Secondary Education of Greek Community Schools in Great Britain (20th century). A Case Study: The Greek-Orthodox School of Ayios Demetrios, North London”. He also holds an MA in Teaching History from the University of London (1995), and a Diploma in Education (1992) from the same university. He is currently conducting postdoctoral research at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, on the Codex of Ayios Andronikos Church, in Dali, Cyprus. He has presented papers at international and local conferences.

Profile:

Archim. Gregorios Ioannides is Assοciate Professor in Liturgical studies. He teaches courses in Liturgy in the undergraduate Theology program at the Theological School of the Church of Cyprus. He is also in charge of the Library and Head of the Office of Pastoral Care. He currently acts as a Protosyngelos in the Holy Metropolis of Trimithous. He is a member of the Throne Committee and Head of the Ecclesiastical Deaconry and Enlightenment Office of the Metropolis, which is responsible for the initiatives of the Women’s Christian Association and the organization of readings of the Bible, speeches, lectures, conferences, student conferences and camps. Apart from his duties in pastoral and social work, he represents the Holy Metropolis of Trimithous in Synodic Committees and in the Committee of the Department of Antiquities for the preservation of the cultural heritage of the metropolitan area.

Dr Olga Solomontos-Kountouri is a Professor of Developmental Psychology, Head of the Master in Application of Psychology and Counseling in the Community and Head of Research and International Relations at the Theological School of the Church of Cyprus. She is an Honorary Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Institute of Education -UCL. She has a PhD on Developmental Psychology and a Master on Child Development from the Institute of Education. She develops two main research directions: The first concerns the developmental psychology of adolescence on three areas: (a) identity (b) delinquency and (c) bullying. The second line of research focusses on applied psychology on the above three areas in two target groups: (a) the education of young offenders during their imprisonment that aims at occupational and social rehabilitation and (b) the implementation of prevention and intervention programs to reduce bullying and victimization in secondary school students. With her research group implements educational intervention programs to inmates, i.e., ELMIP, CUP, SEMELI, Golden Thread, RECOMMIT. In cooperation with the Ministry of Education and the professor D. Strohmeier, she implemented the Viennese Social Competence Program -ViSC in Secondary Schools in Cyprus from 2012 to 2020. With Anthi Loutsiou from the University of Cyprus and the Youth Organization, she re-established the ViSC program in Cypriot high schools in 2023, under the initiative Standing Together. She served as an appointed member of the Prison Council from 2016 to 2022. She is a member of many scientific organizations; she has many publications in scientific journals and presentations at international and local conferences. She served as an elected member of the executive committee of the European Association for Research on Adolescence (EARA) (2002-2008 & 2020-2024) as coordinator of international representatives (2020-2024) and as coordinator and editor of the newsletter (2020-2028). Profile: 

Dr Maria Pavlou is Assistant Professor of Ancient Greek Language and Literature at the Theological School of the Church of Cyprus. She teaches at the Undergraduate Programme of Theology. She is also the Director of the Classical Languages Summer School (CLaSS) and responsible for the School’s Public Relations, Quality Assurance and the Welfare Office. Dr Pavlou read Classics at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (BA, 1997-2002) and Leeds University (MA, 2003). She received her PhD from the University of Bristol, UK (2003-2007) with a thesis titled “Time in Pindar”. She has recently received an MSc in Digital Education from the University of Edinburgh (2018). From 2005 onwards she worked as a Teaching Fellow / Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Bristol (2005-2009), the University of Cyprus (2014-2018), and the Open University of Cyprus (2010-2013 & 2018), and was involved in a number of research projects at the University of Cyprus (2010-2011) and the Open University of Cyprus (2012-2015). She has also been awarded several scholarships: Center for Hellenic Studies (Harvard University), Μargo Tytus Summer Fellow (University of Cincinnati), National Scholarship Foundation of Greece (IKY), A. G. Leventis Foundation, Αrts and Humanities Research Council (U.K.), Fondation Hardt (Geneva), J. Costopoulos Foundation. She has published several articles in peer-reviewed journals and collective volumes and is the co-editor (with Prof. Vayos Liapis and Prof. Antonis Petrides) of Debating with the Eumenides (Cambridge Scholars 2018) and of the collective volume Framing the Dialogues: How to Read Openings and Closures in Plato, published by Brill in 2020 (co-edited with Prof. Antonis Tsakmakis and Dr Eleni Kaklamanou). Dr Chrysovalantis Kyriacou is Lecturer in Ecclesiastical History at the Theological School of the Church of Cyprus. A Byzantinist by training, Dr Kyriacou has taught at the University of Cyprus, European University Cyprus and Royal Holloway, University of London. His research interests cover ecclesiastical history and historiography, especially in the Eastern Mediterranean from Late Antiquity to the Early Modern period. Dr Kyriacou is the author of four monographs, including Orthodox Cyprus under the Latins, 1191–1571: Society, Spirituality, and Identities (Lexington Books: New York–London, 2018).

Dr Christina Hadjiafxenti is since 2020 Teaching associate at the Theological School of the Church of Cyprus, specializing in the field of Byzantine Literature. Previously serving as a teaching associate at the Department of Byzantine Philology at the University of Cyprus during the winter semester of 2022-23 and the spring semester of 2023-24, she concurrently contributed as a research assistant to two significant projects. These include “ThaumArt: The Art of Miracle Story Collections” (January 2020-July 2021) and “Links of a Golden Chain: A Cultural History of the Late Byzantine Aristocracy (1261-1460)” (September-November 2021 and July-August 2022) at the Department of Byzantine and Modern Greek Philology, as well as the Department of History and Archaeology at the University of Cyprus. She worked also in the research project of the Open University of Cyprus “Byzart: Byzantine Art and Archaeology on Europeana” (September 2018- April 2019) and she had a postdoc-scholarship at the Leibniz-Institute for European History in Mainz in Germany and Leibniz-WissenschaftCampus Mainz “Byzantium between Orient and Occident” (Subject of the research project: The reception of Byzantium in the Church historiography of the 19^th century. A comparison between German and Greek sources) (2015-2017). In 2017 she had also a fellowship at the Georg-Eckert-Institute for International Textbook Research in Braunschweig, Germany. She participated in many conferences and workshops in Germany and other European countries and was teaching assistant for many semesters at the University of Leipzig in Germany.

Dr Aliki Vasiliadou is part of the special academic staff of the Theological School of the Church of Cyprus. She is working on The Golden Thread: Building Family Bonds and Parenting Skills as a Means to Reduce Recidivism in European Prisons (2022 – 2024) ERASMUS+ KA220-ADU – Strategic Partnerships for adult education programme. She also coordinates academic dissertations. She is a registered Counselling Psychologist both in Cyprus and the UK and holds a doctoral degree in Counselling Psychology from the University of Manchester (2021). She further holds a MSc in Counselling Studies from the University of Edinburgh (2016) and a BA in Psychology from the University of Cyprus (2015). She worked for the North West NHS Eating Disorders Service from 2020 to 2023. She currently works in schools as part of DRASE+ programme for social inclusion. She is an active member of the Cyprus Psychologists’ Association. Her research interests include social justice and inclusion, difference and diversity, psychological trauma, and the therapeutic relationship.

Louiza Michail is a member of the Special Teaching Staff of the Theological School of the Church of Cyprus, responsible for the coordination and the supervision of the Postgraduate Student’s Practicum.  She has also Administrative Duties in Secretarial Department of Postgraduate Studies at the postgraduate program Applications of Psychology and Counselling in the Community. Additionally, she involves in European Programs. She was a trainer in Convicts Upskilling Pathways (CUP) Erasmus KA2 program for detainees. Currently, she is involved in the The Golden Thread intervention program for detainees, as a member of the team of the Theological School of the Church of Cyprus.

She graduated from the National Kapodistrian University of Athens, earning her undergraduate degree in Psychology. Then she was specialized in School Counseling by studying at the University of Cyprus, where she obtained her first master degree. In 2021 she obtained her second master degree in Applications of Psychology and Counseling in the Community, at Theological School of the Church of Cyprus.

Metropolitan Vasilios (Karayiannis) of Constantia and Ammochostos teaches Dogmatics in the Undergraduate Theology program of the Theological School of the Church of Cyprus. He was elected Metropolitan of Constantia and Ammochostos in 2007. He holds a Degree in Theology from the University of Athens and a Postgraduate Degree in Theology from the University of Fribourg in Switzerland. He holds two PhD titles in Theology. The first PhD degree from the Faculty of Theology of the University of Fribourg in Switzerland with title “Maxime le Confesseur: essence et énergies de Dieu” (“Ontological Distinction of Substance, Energy and Knowledge of God according to St. Maximus the Confessor). The second PhD from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens with title: “The knowledge of God according to Saint John of Damascus”. He has been serving as a representative of the Church of Cyprus in the Ecumencal dialogue for several years. In 2022 he was elected President of the Eastern Orthodox Church in the World Council of Churches. He is a member of scientific committees and boards and he has participated in several international and local conferences. He has numerous publications in journals and volumes. He is a founding member and the President of the Board of the “Saint Epiphanios” Cultural Academy – Institute of Studies, Research and Culture. From his position as Metropolitan of Constantia and Ammochostos he develops pastoral and social work, in his metropolitan district.

Archimandrite Nikolaos Ioannidis is a retired professor of the Department of Theology of the Theological School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He is currently a professor of Patrology at the Theological School of the Church of Cyprus. He has participated as a speaker at numerous conferences both in Greece and abroad. He has supervised several post-graduate and doctoral dissertations and has participated in numerous three-member and seven-member supervising committees of post-graduate and doctoral dissertations, as well as in many three-member commissions and electoral bodies for the evaluation and promotion of Lecturers, Assistant, Associate and Regular Professors at PSPA, EPS and the Theological Faculty of the University of Belgrade. For a number of years he has been a member of a series of Synodal Committees of the Church of Greece (Divine Worship and Pastoral Work and Liturgical Renewal). He has served as Chairman of the Governing Committee of the Athens Higher Ecclesiastical Academy for a decade. He has been honoured by the Patriarchate of Moscow with the medal of St. Sergius and by the Church of Greece with the highest distinction, the “Golden Cross of St. Paul”.

He is currently a Professor of Theology at the University of Athens. Completing his undergraduate studies in law, philology, and theology at the University of Athens, he pursued graduate studies in theology in France and Germany, obtained a master’s degree from the University of Strasbourg (France), and earned a Ph.D. from the University of Freiburg (Germany). Moreover, he obtained a second Ph.D. from the University of Thessaloniki (Greece) under the direction of Metropolitan Prof. Panteleimon (Rodopoulos) of Tiroloi.
His Eminence is fluent in German, French, Italian, Spanish, Russian and English, in addition to his mother tongue, Modem Greek. He also possesses an advanced mastery of Ancient Greek and Latin.
The Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate elected him as Bishop of Abydos on the 7th of February 2008, and he was consecrated to the episcopacy on the 23rd of February 2008 at the Holy Patriarchal Church of Saint George, at the Phanar (Istanbul, Turkey). On the 16th of February 2021, the Holy Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate elected him as Metropolitan of Krini and was appointed Patriarchal Exarch of Malta.
He is a tenured professor of theology at the University of Athens, where he holds a full- time academic chair. Additionally, he served as Dean of the Department of Social Theology from 2007-2009 and 2020-2022. Also he is Rector of the Institut d’études supérieures en théologie orthodoxe in Chambésy/Geneva.
As of 2017, he is President Emeritus of the Society for the Law of Eastern Churches after serving as its president for the better part of a decade. As an international academic authority, he has written several books and articles related to his research.
His Eminence Metropolitan Kyrillos of Krini, Patriarchal Exarch of Malta, was appointed as Orthodox Co-Chair of the Joint International Commission on Theological Dialogue between Orthodox and Lutherans.

Dr. Konstantinos Nikolakopoulos is a professor of Biblical Theology, with a specialization in “New Testament” studies, at the Department of Orthodox Theology of the University of Munich. He is also guest professor at the Theological School of the Church of Cyprus. From 2003 to 2011 he was President (Dean) of the Orthodox Department, from 2011 to 2017 was Chairman of the Examining Board and from 2017 to this day is again President (Dean) of the aforementioned department of the University of Munich. Since 2006, he has been publishing the German-language scientific theological journal “Orthodoxes Forum”, since 2011 the series of theological monographs “Lehr und Studienbücher Orthodoxe Theologie” and since 2023 the series “Veröffentlichungen des Instituts für Orthodoxe Theologie”. He is a member of the Committee on Theological Dialogue between the Orthodox and the Catholic churches of Germany, as well as the Dialogue Committee between the Ecumenical Patriarchate and the German Evangelical Church. He participates in interdisciplinary research programs of European Universities and is a member of many scientific societies, foundations and committees. He has participated in Evaluating Committees of undergraduate and postgraduate programs at Greek and Cypriot Universities, following invitations from the institutions ADIP in Greece and DIPAE in Cyprus. He has published monographs, various studies and articles in the fields of Introduction, Interpretation and Theology of the New Testament, and, Byzantine Museology, Liturgy and Hymnology of the early Church. The Linguistic development in the Hellenistic and early Christian period is the main focus of his research activities and teaching, with a special interest in the “Common” language of the New Testament.

Athanasios Paparnakis was born in Thessaloniki. He is a graduate of the School of Pastoral Theology of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and a postgraduate of the Department of Theology of Durham University, UK. He taught the course of Religius studies at schools of the secondary education and since 2001 he belongs to the teaching staff of the School of Social Theology and Christian Culture of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He works on the Interpretation of the Old Testament and Biblical Theology.

I was born in Athens in 1968. Studies at the Department of Theology in 1990. Postgraduate studies in Greece and in Mainz, Germany. Simultaneous studies in Byzantine Music at Skalkota Conservatory – member and soloist of the Greek Byzantine Choir.

In 1999 I was awarded a Doctor of Theology with the thesis “Heavenly Worship in the Apocalypse. 4-5”. 1996-2001 I taught the course of Orthodox religious studies in German Schools in the state of Hessen and compiled the detailed Teaching Programs for the same course. Since 2001 I am Professor at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, focusing on the Interpretation of the New Testament and at the Hellenic Open University the module ΟΡΘ50 «The Historical Course of the Orthodox Church and Theology in the Wider Religious and Cultural Environment (Late Antiquity – 18th century) ». Dr Soultana D. Lamprou is a professor at the Department of Social Theology and Christian Culture of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki with the subject “Church literature from the 9th to the 15th century”. She studied Theology at the Department of Social Theology and Christian Culture of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. She completed her postgraduate studies at the same Department where she received her Master’s and Doctorate Diploma with Honors.

She is teaching at bachelor, master, and doctoral level, at the Department of Social Theology and Christian Culture of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, at the home university and abroad. She has supervised postgraduate theses and has participated in committees of postgraduate theses and doctoral dissertations supported in Greek Universities (EKPA, AUTH etc). She has many publications in Greek and English in collective volumes and magazines (on Humanities, Ethics, Cultural, Theology, Social issues) and participation in many local and international conferences as a speaker and as a member of the organizing committees in Greece and abroad. She also participated in. In addition, he participated in the editing and proofreading of various theological books, as well as in the editing of scientific conference proceedings. She was also a member of 40th electoral bodies at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, at the Ecclesiastical Academies, as well as a consultant and member of various committees at the Department of Social Theology and Christian Culture and at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

She was director of the Department of the Biblical Studies, Patristics and Christian Literature of her Departure (2019-2020), peer reviewer in the Religions Journal (2021), and evaluator of the research scholarships of the Hellenic Institute of Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Studies in Venice (2021-2022). She is Deputy President of the Byzantine Research Center of AUTH and Director of the Theology Department of the same Center. Director of the Inter-Institutional Graduate Program “Religious and Pilgrimage Tourism” of the Department (2024).

For a decade, she has co-ordinated the bilateral Erasmus Programme agreement with the Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra Slovakia, as well as with the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich.

Dr Zisis Melissakis is Senior Researcher at the Institute of Historical Research (Section of Byzantine Research) of the National Hellenic Research Foundation. His research focuses mainly on monastic libraries, particularly Mount Athos and Patmos through palaeographical, codicological, as well as historical and archival topics. His current principal work concern the cataloguing of the manuscripts of the Monastery of St John the Theologian on Patmos, as well as the manuscripts and old printed books of the Monastery of Iviron on Mount Athos. He has participated in a number of Greek and International research projects on the Byzantine and post-Byzantine manuscript book. Since 2002 he has been teaching Greek Palaeography at the Historical Sciences Seminars of the National Hellenic Research Foundation and has delivered lectures on the same topic in various Greek universities. During the past few years, he has organized two international summer schools on Greek Palaeography and Byzantine Epigraphy for the National Hellenic Research Foundation at the Monastery of Patmos.

Dr. Maria Sakellariou professor of Early Childhood Education at the University of Ioannina. She was President of the Department of Early Childhood Education of the University of Ioannina from September 2013 to November 2017 and she is currently the Director of the Postgraduate Program in “Preschool Education” and Director of the Laboratory of Pedagogical and Didactic Methodology of the Department of Early Childhood Education University of Ioannina. Dr Myria Kkali is a full-time lecturer at CIM and the Academic Director at the Nicosia Campus as well as Deputy Director at the CIM Research Centre. Her research interests include sensemaking and sensegiving practices in organisations, data-based marketing and social marketing. Dr Myria Kkali is the Program Coordinator for the BA Business Management (Marketing) in Nicosia.

Myria has been working in academia since 2012, when she was employed as a GTA in the Nottingham University Business School (Marketing department), where she received her PhD in 2018. She has been working as the Academic Director (Nicosia) at CIM since June 2017, where she delivers modules in topics such as marketing management, consumer behaviour, research methods, global marketing and contemporary marketing challenges.

She has presented her own research at the 2015 British Academy of Management Conference, held in Portsmouth in October 2016, and her conference paper was published in the conference proceedings.

Myria is very interested in bridging the gap between academia and industry and has published a number of articles in the Business Bulletin of the CIM Research Centre. She has also delivered training seminars and has participated in consulting projects.

She has developed close ties with many industry specialists since her move back to Cyprus in 2016 and has co-founded an NGO focusing on bringing about social change through music, by bringing opportunities to children and young people from low socio-economic backgrounds. Myria acts as the marketing and communications officer of the organisation.

Rev. Nikolaos Papantoniou holds a PhD in Theology from the Faculty of Theology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He is a teaching associate of the Theological School of the Church of Cyprus. As a priest he serves at the Holy Diocese of Constantia and Ammochostos and he is in charge of the Office of Diakonia of the Diocese, with responsibilities related to pastoral work, organization of activities and the publication of the journal of the Diocese. In addition, he is a collaborator of the “Saint Epiphanios” Cultural Academy and participates in activities such as scientific publications, organization of lectures and international conferences. He is a member of the Synodal Committee on Inter-Orthodox, Inter-Christian and Inter-Religious Relations. As a representative of the Church of Cyprus, he is a member of the theological committee “Faith and Order” of the World Council of Churches.

Dr John Bekos is Teaching Associate at the Theological School of the Church of Cyprus.  He also teaches at the University of Cyprus and the St Barnabas Seminary of the Church of Cyprus.  He has a strong interdisciplinary capacity as regards his studies (twice PhD holder in the field of Cognitive Psychology/Education and Christian Ethics) and is distinguished for his trans-disciplinary research and teaching.  Since 2015 he is appointed as the Academic Supervisor for the reform of Religious Education in Cyprus.  He has a good track-record of publications in top journals such as Studies in Christian Ethics, Christian Bioethics, Studia Patristica and the International Journal of Public Theology.  He is also member of the Church of Cyprus Synodical Committee for Bioethics.  For more than a decade, he was member of the Cyprus National Bioethics Committee (NCBC) and substantially contributed to the publication of a series of opinions.  Since 2013 Dr Bekos serves as an Ethics Review Expert in the European Commission (FP7 and Horizon 2020) and the European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP).  His scholarly work focuses on, among others, the most challenging socio-political issues like bioethical issues, the current financial and refugee crises in Europe and the role of religion in education and the modern societies.  He is the author of ‘Which Ethics? Which Story? The Narrative of Divine Liturgy and the Transformation of the Human’ published in Greece by En Plo editions. His last book Euthanasia and Patristic Tradition: Reading St John Damascene and St Symeon the New Theologian on Christian Bioethics is published by James Clarke & Co (Cambridge, UK).

Dr Iliada Tofaridou teaches Information Technology at the Theological School of the church of Cyprus. She teaches in the undergraduate Theology program.  She has participated in international and local conferences and she has published articles in scientific magazines.

Her research interests can be classified in two areas: first, the effective use of Information Technology in Mathematics, and, second; the development of a learning models aiming to enhance learning outcomes.

Dr Karolina Lambrou is a visiting lecturer at the Theological School of the Church of Cyprus, where she teaches English for Theology to undergraduate students. She also works at the English School. She has worked in the publishing industry for many years, in Cyprus and the U.K. She has presented her work in numerous international conferences and publications.

Father Sokratis Andreou holds a PhD in Theology from the Theological School of the Aristotelio University of Thessaloniki. He is scientific associate of the Theological School of the Church of Cyprus and teaches a spring semester elective course, entitled “Topics of Ecclesiastical Linguistics and Patristic Theology”. He has recently completed and published his postdoctoral research on Patristic texts of Early Byzantine Literature. He teaches the elective course: “Issues of Ecclesiastical Literature and Patristic Theology”.  He is also a special teaching scientist at the Department of Education Sciences of the University of Cyprus. His recent research interests are related to Byzantine literature and Christian Philosophy.

Dr. George Kounnoushis is Teaching Associate at the Theological School of the Church of Cyprus. He teaches at the Undergraduate Programme of Theology the course “Sociology of Religion”. He also works as a Theologian in Secondary Education. He taught the courses “Sociology of Religion” and “Sociology of Christianity” at the Theological School “Apostolos Barnabas” of the Church of Cyprus from 2015 until 2023. From 2016 to 2019 he worked as a Special Scientist at the University of Cyprus in the Department of Education and taught the course of School Experience. He has published monographs and articles in scientific journals, collective volumes, yearbooks and theological journals in Cyprus and Greece. He has also participated as a speaker in several Conferences in Cyprus and abroad.

Dina Mousteri, (DESS University of Lyon), is a Clinical Psychologist, Clinical Supervisor and Systemic Psychotherapist registered with the United Kingdom Council of Psychotherapists (UKCP). She is also a member of the following registration bodies:

European Association of Psychotherapists (EAP)

Taos Institute (USA) – she holds the title of Professor and Supervisor in Collaborative Dialogical Practices from Houston Galveston Institute and Taos Institute (USA).

She is a founding member of the Cyprus Society of Family Therapy (CySoFT), which she served as President 2007-2013. She was also a founding member of the Movement for Rehabilitation and Promotion of Mental Health, a founding member and first President of the Pancyprian Collective (unsure) of Organizations for Mental Health, a founding member of the Cyprus Society for Systemic Study, and a founding member of the Cyprus Society of Psychologists.

Profile:

Dimitris Ierodiokonou is a researcher and scholar of Byzantine and traditional music at the Holy Monastery of Kykkos. Since 2016 he collaborates with the Theological School of the Church of Cyprus for the needs of curriculum design and teaching a series of lessons on Byzantine Music Performance and Byzantine Music Hymnography. He studied Harmony at the Alexandrio Conservatory in Thessaloniki, Counterpoint at the Music College of Thessaloniki and Byzantine Music at the School of Byzantine Music of the Holy Metropolis of Thessaloniki. He has also served as a psalter for a number of years in various churches in Nicosia and Thessaloniki.
