Language policy – incoming students and staff

The official language of teaching at Theological School of the Church of Cyprus (TSCC)  is Greek. It is advisable that students have at least a basic knowledge in this language (level B1). If they don’t, and because Modern Greek is not supported by the Erasmus+ Online Linguistic Support (OLS) platform, they are strongly advised to attend the intensive Greek language courses offered for incoming students and staff every semester (duration 4 weeks, 100 teaching units, 25 hours / week) by the School of Modern Greek of the University of Cyprus or any other equivalent course. TSCC can make special arrangements to facilitate this opportunity.

Apart from Greek language courses, exchange students and international staff are free to choose to follow the foreign languages courses provided within the framework of the School’s undergraduate programme (English (ΤΗΕΟ.143, ΤΗΕΟ.144) or French (ΤΗΕΟ.145, ΤΗΕΟ.146) for Theological study purposes). Furthermore, on an annual basis, Modern and Ancient Greek Language lessons (ΤΗΕΟ.140, ΤΗΕΟ.141) are provided to all students of the School as a part of the BA in Theology. ECTS will automatically be awarded upon successful completion of these lessons.

The Student Welfare Services are in charge of providing incoming students/staff with advice and information about language learning options that might suit the purposes and the goals fixed by their Mobility Scheme. For all the members of the administrative and teaching staff communication in English (and/or French) between exchange students and staff should not be an issue.
