Facilities and Research Equipment

Existing research facilities in the.T.S.C.C. include two libraries, two computer rooms with specialized software for research, and a “mobile research lab” which consists of laptop computers with specialized software.

The library of the Archbishop Makarios III Foundation          

The Library of the Archbishop Makarios III Foundation is located alongside the Holy Archdiocese. His Grace, Archbishop of Cyprus Mr. Chrysostomos II, President of the Foundation Archbishop Makarios III and President of the Council of the T.S.C.C. has granted access of this library to the School, and therefore it operates as the Central Library of the School. This building houses the Library of the Holy Archbishopric of Cyprus, the important Faneromeni’s Library which was founded in 1933, and the Collection of Makarios Foundation. The themes of these three collections complement each other. Also, the Library of the Makarios III Foundation has gradually enriched its collection with the libraries of the late Mgr. Makarios III and the late Mgr. Chrysostomos A, the Cypriot Studies Society, the Costas M. Prousis collection composed mainly of Greek and Cypriot literature, donated by the family of Archimandrite Hippolytus Michaelides and of the late George Ioannides, former minister and interlocutor for the Cyprus problem. These collections are in the process of processing and cataloguing, so for the moment they are not available to the public. The Library also owns a number of additional archives which are currently under review. From them, the archives of Rodion Georgiadis has already been published by the Holy Archbishopric of Cyprus in 2008.

AREA

The Library of the Archbishop Makarios III Foundation currently holds a total of about 80,000 volumes of books, magazines and newspapers and is considered to one of the best Cypriot research Libraries in the area of Theology. The library is continuously enriched with important material for the thematic areas of its specialization. There are rich resources in the areas of Patrology, Church History and Theology. Complete series of the seminal project of Greek and Latin Patrology (publications of J.-P. Migne), the Patrologia Orientalis, of the Sources chrétiennes, Corpus Christianorum Series Graeca etc., as well as complete sets of the magazine Apostle Barnabas, Church Truth of Constantinople, Hesperia, Theological Studies, etc., are featured. The Collection of the Archdiocese also has a number of older versions that are now in the stage of maintenance. Several of these collections were imported from abroad by the late Mgr. Makarios C’ for the enrichment of the Library.

The Central Library also provides access to the/at students/students, the academic and research staff of ThT.S.C.C. in the electronic catalogue (OPAC) that provides the ability to search printed material through the library system ABEKT 5.6. Also, the Library is a member of the Cyprus union Catalogue of Libraries.

CAPACITY

The library is open to the research community, and serves about one and a half thousand scholars annually who are facilitated to make a small number of photocopies of required resources, following regulations on intellectual property.

The library is staffed by five specialized and suitably skilled workers. Specifically, the Director, two Cataloguers, a Secretary, and a Librarian.

HOURS OF OPERATION

The Library is open to the public Monday – Friday: 08.00 – 16.00, Saturday: 09.00 – 12.30.

Study Library

The Styudy Library, the second library that is located within the area of the T.S.C.C., is an Academic Library for Humanities Studies, with specialization in the thematic areas of the programs offered by the Departments of the School, namely Theology and Psychology. The Study Library operates as a lending library but also as a study and research area. The material it contains, the services it provides, the conditions and operating rules are supporting the educational and research needs of the T.S.C.C. There is close cooperation between the Library and the teaching staff, for the regulation of issues relevant to the students’ needs. The Library’s main goal is to serve the information needs of students, teaching staff, administrative and visiting staff of the School, as well as any other member interested in using its services. Also it supports current and prospective educational (undergraduate and postgraduate) and research programs offered by the T.S.C.C.. It is responsible for the organization and management of its resources for the benefit of the above described programs. In general, it supports the administrative and organizational aspects of the operation of the School.

SIZE

The Study Library of the T.S.C.C. includes about 5,000 titles of supporting printed material (books and periodical scientific publications) and is continuously enriched with new material. Among this material are the books that support students’ attendance in the two programs of T.S.C.C., the most objective and critical versions of ecclesiastical texts that are necessary for conducting original research in Theology, and a multitude of electronic scientific journal article, necessary for research in Psychology. Teaching and research staff may order additional books necessary for their research, when they are not available in the two above mentioned libraries of the T.S.C.C..

The Study Library also provides to the students, the academic and research staff of the T.S.C.C., access to the electronic catalogue (OPAC) which allows searching for printed material through the library’s Koha Library Management system. Access to scientific publications includes the Thesaurus Linguae Grecae software that provides immediate access to the full text of 12.000 Greek Manuscripts from 3.700 Greek authors, dating from Homer to 1453 a.d., the ΒibleWorks software for Biblical Studies which is supplemented with an online platform, the databases ProQuest, Ebsco Host, PsycArticles and PsycInfo, with a wealth of material relevant to the field of Psychology and the Social Sciences, and international open access databases such as the National Archive of PhD Theses (NAPT), the DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journals), the DOAB (Directory of Open Access books), the ERIC (Education Resources Information Center) and the EthOS, Google Scholar and OpernArchives.gr. Finally, the Library is a member of the Cyprus Cooperative Catalogue of Libraries.

CAPACITY

Within the library there are desks and seats which can be used as a reading space of 8-10 students. There is also a PC which can be used to access subscription databases and electronic journals.

The Study Library of T.S.C.C. it is staffed with a librarian who is a permanent member of the administrative staff.

Experimental Psychology Laboratory

The Experimental Psychology Lab is housed in an office within the T.S.C.C. and is equipped with a PC with specialized software for research which includes: E-Prime 2.0, SPSS, R, SR Research Experiment Builder, Python, Unity and Adobe Photoshop.

AREA

The Experimental Psychology Laboratory has an area of about 20 sqm.

CAPACITY

The Experimental Psychology Laboratory can host 2-3 PCs appropriate for research and 2 researchers.

NUMBER & QUALIFICATIONS OF EMPLOYEES

At the moment, the Experimental Psychology Laboratory is staffed by the coordinator, who is a faculty member of the T.S.C.C. and holds a Ph.D in Experimental Psychology / Neuropsychology. In the framework of collaborative research or participation in research projects access can also be granted to all students conducting research under the supervision of a faculty member of T.S.C.C., or researchers who collaborate with a faculty member, provided that they have the permission of the lab coordinator. Students might be involved with research activities as part of their thesis or dissertation, as participants in independent research programs, funded actions or other research for the purpose of obtaining research experience. Finally, in case of external funding, the lab is expected to be staffed with extra employees, such as Ph.D students.post-doctoral researchers or other external partners.

HOURS OF OPERATION

The Experimental Psychology Laboratory can be used during normal operating hours of the T.S.C.C (8.00 – 18.00), but also outside these hours after arrangements with the coordinator.

Mobile Laboratory

The School has four (4) laptop computers that can be used by Graduate students within the School, but also for research purposes by faculty and visiting research staff. The laptops have open access software installed useful for the design of research protocols, data collection and analysis (Python, R, Unity). In this way, these laptops can be used by researchers as a “mobile laboratory”. They could, for example, be transported to a location (e.g. school, hospital, conference hall) for online (e.g. filling in a web questionnaire) or offline data collection (such as respond to questionnaires, conduct computerized experiments, collect reaction times etc.) with the use of specialized software.

The Mobile Laboratory can be used by all students and researchers of the T.S.C.C., as well as the visiting research and teaching staff. The lab coordinator is a faculty member of the T.S.C.C. with a Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology / Neuropsychology.

HOURS OF OPERATION

The laptops of the Mobile Laboratory can be used any time within or outside normal operating hours of the T.S.C.C., after arrangements with the coordinator.

Computer Room

The Computer Room is located within the premises of the T.S.C.C., on the ground floor near the Reception Desk. It provides students and researchers with access to the internet, and to equipment for processing and printing documents, assignments, textbooks, etc., to support their studies and/or research activities. With regard to research support, the Computer Room can be used by students and researchers of the T.S.C.C. to conduct literature reviews, to prepare research protocols, to collect and analyze data (after consultation with the Research and International Relations Office of the T.S.C.C.) using behavioral measurements, interviews, questionnaires etc.

AREA

The Computer Room has an area of approximately 24.60 sq.m.

CAPACITY

The Computer Room is equipped with eight (8) computers and a sufficient number of desks and chairs for shared use by up to 16-20 students or researchers. The PCs have open access software installed useful for the design of research protocols, data collection and analysis (Python, R, Unity).

NUMBER & QUALIFICATIONS OF EMPLOYEES

The PCs in the Computer Room are accessible by all students and researchers of the T.S.C.C. The Computer Room is managed by the coordinator, a faculty member of the T.S.C.C. with a Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology / Neuropsychology.

HOURS OF OPERATION

The Computer Room is accessible for research purposes during the normal operating hours of the T.S.C.C. (8.00 – 18.00), but also outside these hours after arrangements are made with the coordinator.
