Profile:

Dr. Ioanna Katsounari is a Registered Clinical Psychologist in Cyprus, trained in Clinical Psychology in the United States of America. Dr. Katsounari completed her undergraduate studies (BSc Psychology) at the University of Derby in the UK. She then completed postgraduate studies (MA in Clinical Psychology) at the Illinois School of Professional Psychology and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (PsyD Clinical Psychology) at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology.

Her doctoral thesis focused on the assessment of Post-traumatic Stress using psychometric tools such as the MMPI and the Rorschach. As part of her specialty in Clinical Psychology, she trained at a Rehabilitation Center for Victims of Torture (Marjorie Kovler Center for the Rehabilitation of Victims of Torture), at a Public Psychiatric Hospital (Chicago Read Mental Health Center, Chicago) and at a Child and Adolescent Assessment Organization. After completing her PsyD in Clinical Psychology, she continued her post-doctoral training at a College Counseling Center (Harper College Health and Psychological Services, Chicago). She has participated in national programs focused on providing counseling and other support services among at-risk populations, such as youth and families under the protection of social welfare services.

She has also collaborated with various NGOs in relation to the development of services and has participated in European funded projects. She has presented her research at international conferences and has published articles in scientific journals. In 2016 she published the book entitled ‘Assessment of combat PTSD using the Rorschach and the MMPI’. From 2007 to 2020, she was a faculty member at Frederick University at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology and Social Sciences, where she was the coordinator of the Psychology program from 2018 until 2020. She has taught at the Cyprus University of Technology in the Department of Nursing and at the University of Nicosia in the Department of Education. In recent years she has been providing supervision to professional Clinical Psychologists. She joined the Theological School of the Church of Cyprus in September 2026.
