Metropolitan of Constantine Vasilios (Karagiannis)

Profile:

Metropolitan Vasilios (Karayiannis) of Constantia and Ammochostos teaches Dogmatics in the Undergraduate Theology program of the Theological School of the Church of Cyprus. He was elected Metropolitan of Constantia and Ammochostos in 2007. He holds a Degree in Theology from the University of Athens and a Postgraduate Degree in Theology from the University of Fribourg in Switzerland. He holds two PhD titles in Theology. The first PhD degree from the Faculty of Theology of the University of Fribourg in Switzerland with title “Maxime le Confesseur: essence et énergies de Dieu (“Ontological Distinction of Substance, Energy and Knowledge of God according to St. Maximus the Confessor). The second PhD from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens with title: “The knowledge of God according to Saint John of Damascus”. He has been serving as a representative of the Church of Cyprus in the Ecumencal dialogue for several years. In 2022 he was elected President of the Eastern Orthodox Church in the World Council of Churches. He is a member of scientific committees and boards and he has participated in several international and local conferences. He has numerous publications in journals and volumes. He is a founding member and the President of the Board of the “Saint Epiphanios” Cultural Academy – Institute of Studies, Research and Culture. From his position as Metropolitan of Constantia and Ammochostos he develops pastoral and social work, in his metropolitan district.
