Profile

Dr Andreas Foulias has been working as a Teaching Associate at the Theological School of the Church of Cyprus since 2017. He specialises in Christian and Byzantine Art and Archaeology. In 2004/2005 he worked as an Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Cyprus, teaching an undergraduate course on the Paleo-Christian Art of Cyprus. Dr Foulias received his PhD from the Department of History and Archaeology of the University of Athens, Greece (2011) with a thesis titled Architecture and Monumental Painting in Cyprus during the Period of Arab Raids (649-965).

Andreas Foulias has written several monographs and has published many articles in peer-reviewed journals and collective volumes. He is the co-editor (with Ch. Hatzichristodoulou) of H Ιερά Μονή του Αποστόλου Ανδρέα στην Καρπασία, Holy Bishopric of Karpasia, Nicosia 2020. He was a member of the Open University Advisory Committee responsible for the “History of Cyprus” Module. He has presented papers in numerous conferences in Cyprus and abroad.

Andreas Foulias is a Member of the Advisory Board of the Bi-communal Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage (Europa Nostra Grand Prix 2021). Dr Andreas Foulias serves as a Scientific Collaborator of the Scientific Committee of the Office of Pilgrimage Tours of the Holy Archdiocese of Cyprus. He is also a Scientific Collaborator at the Holy Metropolis of Paphos Department of Registration, Maintenance and Supervision of Monuments, Churches and Icons. He was a member of a team of Architects and Archaeologists, which undertook the restoration of St. Mary’s Armenian Church (14th c.). The project was awarded with the Europa Nostra 2015 prize. Andreas Foulias served as the Chairperson of the Administrative Board of the Byzantinist Society of Cyprus (2016-2021) and as the Vice-chairperson of the Association of Cypriot Archaeologists. He is a member of the Christian Archaeological Society in Athens, the International Association for the Study of Ancient Mosaic A.I.E.M.A., the Society of Cypriot Studies and an appointed member of the Ecclesiastical Committees of two churches in the Turkish-occupied part of Cyprus: the Timios Stavros of Varoshia (Famagusta), and the Panaghia of Genagra church in the Famagusta province.
